Greetings Esteemed Delegates & Advisors,
As the Secretaries-General for Thomas Sprigg Wootton High School’s 2020-2021 Model United Nations team, it is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the fourth iteration of our high school conference, WHSMUN.
We are both incredibly excited to announce that this year, in a fitting yet humorous play on our original conference name, the Wootton Worldwide Web High School Model UN Conference, or WWWHSMUNIV, will take place on December 4th and 5th, 2020. The circumstances of this year warrant a reassessment of the way in which we originally intended to execute this conference. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, WWWHSMUNIV will be hosted online.
Despite the many challenges that the past few months have brought, we are eager to ensure that the debate in committee and overall conference experience is engaging and accessible. With committee topics ranging from the University of Southern California’s Board & Town Hall to Khalistan, the Sikh secessionist movement, to an environmental committee set in the year 2200, we are sure that regardless of your interests, there will be a committee for you at WWWHSMUNIV this year.
We hope that despite the unconventional conference format this year, delegates will still have a chance to discuss some of the most pressing issues facing our world right now, improve their public speaking, and get a chance to meet others who share the same fervor for Model UN.
We are incredibly excited to extend our conference’s legacy of academic rigor and productive debate through a wide variety of incredibly engaging committee topics and experienced staff and chairs. Our staff and secretariat have been working hard to perfect each of the committees and allow for a conference experience unparalleled to any WHSMUN before. Throughout the conference, we challenge you to step beyond your comfort zone and remain enthusiastic and engaged. Your chairs are heavily invested in the topics of your committees and are eager to hear your solutions!
It only feels right to end this letter with a quote from Ruth Bader Ginsburg: “Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.”
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to meeting you and hope you have an amazing conference experience!
