Welcome to YMGE X! My name is Alayna Lee, and I am so excited to welcome you all to Yale Model Government Europe. I am honored to be at the helm of such an innovative and impactful conference, one that has spread the passion and fruits of diplomacy for years — a skill needed now more than ever. Our team has worked hard to foster a dynamic and fully immersive Model UN experience, encouraging our delegates to tackle and negotiate all-encompassing solutions for the most complex problems facing our society. We are thrilled to have our conference take place in Amsterdam this coming May and look forward to hosting you all for the best conference to date!
Our conference boasts a unique take on Model UN seen nowhere else. Delegates learn how to actively search for compromises and agreement, while having crisis updates thrown at them every step of the way. We replicate the actual European Union as closely as possible, with students representing Ministers for both Councils and Cabinets. Just last March our primary crisis regarded the increasingly important topic of climate change, prompting students to create solutions to a scenario that might become a likely future.
For the past nine years, it has been our great pleasure to introduce this ground-breaking structure to delegates from around the world. It has always been our goal to ensure that a diversity of thought and experience are brought to the table — both in the issues we discuss and the delegates we attract — to make for a more enriching conversation. In the past, we have had delegates hailing anywhere from France to Saudi Arabia. The intimacy provided in our smaller committees allow delegates to connect in a way unavailable at similar conferences, and we aim to ensure that all voices and experience levels are heard. Outside of our committees, YMGE rounds out the educational experience with a diverse range of panels and workshops, in addition to paying homage to our host city with cultural events.
As we move into our tenth iteration of YMGE, we hope to change for the better. In addition to improving our committee structure, we have fundamentally reaffirmed our ideals. Our new motto, “Redefining Global Leadership,” eloquently summarizes our goal to move past stagnant diplomacy into a future of enterprising and adaptable world guidance. We are delighted to introduce you to a redesigned YMGE and hope you enjoy the conference as much as we do every year.
Look forward to more conference updates as our team works to curate the best possible conference experience. I encourage you all to register as soon as possible in order to secure a seat and to stay in close touch with our team. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me. Thank you so much for your interest and continued support of Yale Model Government Europe, and I sincerely hope to meet you all in the spring.
